Luftbild Eckernförde - Der Marinestützpunkt ist ein bedeutender Wirtschaftsfaktor für die Stadt Eckernförde | Zusätzlich plant die Bundeswehr, bis 2025 ein neues Schießausbildungszentrum für das Kommando Spezialkräfte der Marine auf dem Gelände der Hindernisbahn zu errichten, was ab 2025 die Durchführung von Spitzensport am Standort nicht mehr ermöglichen wird. Die Bundeswehr plant zudem weitere Investitionen in Höhe von insgesamt 500 Millionen Euro, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf den Pieranlagen und der Verbesserung der Infrastruktur für die neuen U-Boote liegt, die gemeinsam mit Norwegen beschafft werden. Die Personalstärke soll mittelfristig auf 4.000 Dienstposten anwachsen. Der Marinestützpunkt ist ein bedeutender Wirtschaftsfaktor für die Stadt Eckernförde, die mit rund 2.000 Soldatinnen und Soldaten beheimatet sind.
